The Biddle is located within the Indiana Memorial Union in the heart of IU Bloomington’s campus.

The Biddle will offer 5 room types, all single occupancy only, and they range in price from $11,400-$16,900 for the academic year.

The Biddle will become home to 186, IUB affiliated sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students, or faculty/campus guest lecturers (for long-term stays only).

The Biddle will be accepting applications from IUB affiliated individuals until our capacity is reached. Once at capacity, we will offer a waiting list for those interested should a vacancy occur.

The Biddle reserves the right to make room assignments based on room type availability.

All residents will be required to vacate their Biddle room during this time in the academic year per campus guidelines. Residents will be able to submit a petition to request permission to remain in their Biddle room during those dates by demonstrating they have no other housing option during that time. Residents will not have to remove all their personal belongings during this time when they vacate the room but there will be check out guidelines for how to prepare the room before you depart.

No, the Biddle will only be available as a single occupancy housing option for the 2020-2021 academic year.

No, the Biddle is part of the Division of Student Affairs at IUB and has been advised by RPS staff to operationalize Biddle as a long term residential space for the 2020-2021 academic year including mirroring many of the policies, procedures, and services comparable to RPS apartments; however the Biddle will maintain a separate contract for residents and have adjusted policies and procedures that align with the unique facility and location.

No, the Biddle is only available for long-term contracts. There will be no short term stays or guest housing options at the Biddle for 2020-2021 and Biddle will not operate as a hotel for the 2020-2021 academic year.

The Biddle rooms are furnished with wall to wall carpet and will be single occupancy rooms. They have a smoke detector and fire suppression sprinkler system in each room, centralized HVAC with individual room temperature control, free Wi-Fi, queen or king Serta mattress, waterproof mattress protector & bed frame, 2 standard bed pillows, a set of bed and bath linens, private bathroom (includes sink, toilet, mirror, shower/tub, shower curtain), clothes closet, 4 dresser drawers, small refrigerator, wall mounted digital flat screen TV with basic cable, night stand, nightstand lamp, desk, desk chair, desk lamp, window coverings, and 2 trash receptacles.

Biddle residents will have access to Xfinity streaming service just as you would if you lived in an RPS facility.

Yes, a compact appliance is available to rent for $149. This is available for all room types except the standard one queen room. The compact appliance consists of a microwave, freezer, and refrigerator.

Only individual pod coffee makers are allowed in your room.

The extended queen room will allow for a small futon to be brought in by the resident. The other room types are not large enough to bring additional furnishings.

Living at the Biddle will offer a one stop shop experience with a 24 hour quiet and academic focused residential experience. Living at the Biddle also makes enjoying all that the IMU has to offer including Starbucks, the IMU Bookstore, many IU Dining options, study and quiet lounges with wonderful ambiance just a few steps away without leaving the facility. From the Biddle, the IUB campus academic buildings, green spaces, and downtown Bloomington restaurants and shopping are within walking distance.

The Biddle will offer a parking pass that aligns to the dates of your contract for a lot adjacent to the IMU/Biddle for a rate comparable to other IUB parking permit rates.

Yes, both Campus Bus and Bloomington Transit stop right at the Biddle's front door/lobby entrance.

Yes, the shuttle from the Indianapolis airport stops right at the Biddle front door/lobby/Front Desk.

Yes, the Biddle will provide bedding and bathroom linens for contract holders that will include 1 bath towel, 1 hand towel, 2 wash cloths, 1 bath mat, 1 fitted sheet, 2 flat sheets, and 1 duvet, laundered weekly by the Biddle housekeeping staff. An additional bath linen set will be available at the Biddle Front Desk for an additional fee as needed.

The bed/bath linen set provided will be laundered on a weekly schedule by the Biddle housekeeping staff which is included in the Biddle room rate. Tide Laundry Service is available for residents to sign up for their personal laundry and Bloomington has many laundromats to choose from.

The Biddle Front Desk is currently evolving their services and hours to accommodate a residential experience for 2020-2021. This will include but not be limited to, accessing after hours emergency maintenance needs, lock outs, and available building staff 24/7. Watch here for more information in the coming weeks as planning continues.

The Biddle residents will have their mail and packages delivered directly to the Biddle Front Desk and mail/package pick up hours will be created to offer convenient pick up options to residents, 7 days a week. Mail and packages that arrive at the IMU for Biddle residents will be required to comply with campus guidelines regarding handling and distribution, including a quarantine period for packages before they are available for pick up.

All IU Dining options on campus and within the IMU will be grab & go for the 2020-2021 academic year. IMU is home to everything from Starbucks to options for a traditional breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and late night snacks. Check out IMU dining options here.

Yes, you can request meal delivery from local vendors directly to your the Biddle room door during the Biddle hours (tba). If you order food after hours, you must meet the food delivery person outside the Biddle lobby at the circle drive.

On a weekly basis, a Biddle housekeeper will enter individual resident rooms to restock toilet paper, refresh bed/bath linens, clean surfaces of the bathroom (sink, counter, toilet, tub/shower, bathroom floor), and vacuum. Residents will be responsible for keeping their own units clean overall and for emptying their own trash receptacle on a regular basis. The Biddle housekeeping staff will be on all residential floors 7 days a week to vacuum, empty trash/recycle receptacles, and monitor cleanliness.

Per the campus guidelines at this time, no guests or visitors will be allowed to visit (short term or overnight) inside the Biddle resident rooms. Please monitor fall2020 website for future updates to the campus visitation guidelines.

The Biddle residents will be issued 1 room card to access their individual room and will have 24/7 card access to 3 main entrances of the IMU to access their residential floors. IMU doors are open (hours tba)to access the other IMU services. Each individual room has a deadbolt lock, a peep hole in the room entry door, no access to rooms that are adjoining, and staff available 24/7 if a need or emergency arise.

Residents may visit or call the Front Desk to access the Biddle Staff, get assistance with room lock-outs, mail/package pickup, general FAQs, submit maintenance requests, reach after hours maintenance for emergencies, receive additional toilet paper rolls (outside the weekly restock schedule), check out a cart or vacuum and check lost & found. Watch our website for additional services and updates about our Front Desk.

Dial 911 and campus and/or local emergency responders will respond directly to your room.

The Biddle Housekeeping staff wear uniforms and name tags, The Biddle Maintenance staff wear gray shirt uniforms and name tags, and The Biddle administrative staff all wear Biddle name tags whenever they are in the Biddle. The Biddle after-hours Building Manager wears a uniform and name tag.

The Biddle residents will be invited to participate in all Indiana Union Board and Student Involvement and Leadership Center programs held in the IMU throughout the academic year.

No, however, a wide range of staff at the Biddle will be supporting the resident's overall experience including full time administrative and residential life experienced staff, housekeeping and maintenance staff as well as hourly employees that assist residents at the Biddle Front Desk.

The Biddle contract outlines in detail the cancellation policy, fees and terms for all those who sign a Biddle contract. Friday, August 7 is the current cancellation deadline (with no fees) for those that sign a Biddle housing contract for fall only or for the full academic year.

The Biddle contract indicates those who are not able to travel to the United States because of COVID-19 related visa restrictions will not be charged cancellation fees for breaking the contract.

If the campus makes any adjustment to the currently stated 2020-2021 revised academic calendar and return to campus plans, the Biddle contracts and occupancy rules will be determined by campus leadership, including fee reimbursement guidelines determined at that time.

In accordance with ADA, Service Animals will be allowed. Service Animals are required to be registered with the Office of Disability Services and the Biddle staff prior to bringing them to campus.

No animals other than registered Service Animals are allowed in the Biddle.

Fire Evacuation routes are located on the inside of every residential room door and residents should familiarize themselves with those evacuation routes upon move-in. Bloomington and IUB has a severe weather notification system that includes a siren that sounds when inclement weather (I.E. tornados) is imminent. The Biddle's designated tornado shelter is located on the lowest level of the Biddle in an interior hallway. Residents should take shelter when the they hear the siren outside of the siren testing schedule.

No, all windows are secured per campus standards.

We are still working with campus authorities to determine final policies for this scenario. A petition to stay option will be in place for those with a demonstrated need to remain in their room during the online only instruction period. More details will be shared soon.

As will be noted on the Biddle housing contract, Indiana University assumes no responsibility and provides no insurance or financial protection for your personal property. We strongly recommend that you do get insurance coverage. As our resident, you are eligible to purchase coverage through GradGuard's student renters insurance program. IU does not receive compensation for providing this student benefit. The preferred rate is available to you as an IU student. GradGuard's renters insurance is underwritten by Markel American Insurance Company. Claims and coverages are subject to language, limits, and exclusions, and policy.

No, a meal plan is not included in the room rates and is not required for residents. There are many IU Dining options and local food vendors for residents to choose from.

Contract start and end dates are outlined in the Biddle Contract. Watch for an email about campus arrival requirements and move in. Thursday, August 13, 2020 will be the first date of our official move-in period.
 

There is no application fee for applying to live at the Biddle.

The health and safety of Biddle residents is our primary concern. Please refer to the return to campus guidelines for expectations for all students, faculty, and staff when on campus.

Please plan to bring cleaning supplies to keep your unit and bathroom clean in between weekly housekeeping service.

Yes.

Yes, those who sign contracts to live in the Biddle, like residence hall, Greek Housing, and IU apartment residents must be tested for COVID-19 within 10 days of moving into the Biddle and arriving on campus. Results must be submitted to IU.

COVID-19 testing will be conducted on all students (undergraduate, graduate, professional) when arriving on campus. Details will be shared soon.

All IU students are asked to follow all of the CDC’s critical COVID-19 behavioral guidelines for at least 14 days prior to arriving on campus, including wearing a mask, physical distancing and avoiding large events. All those preparing to arrive and live on campus need to monitor the fall2020 website closely for updates and directions.

While there are no kitchenettes or community kitchens in Biddle or the IMU; there are many food options right inside the Indiana Memorial Union a few steps away from your room. Additionally,  every Biddle room comes with a small 3.2 cubic foot refrigerator and a compact appliance unit (microwave/refrigerator/freezer) is available to rent in the larger room types.
